Self-adhesive, pressure-sensitive hot melt adhesives or PSAs are thermoplastic adhesives based on rubber. They are characterized by the fact that they do not remain permanently sticky after cooling. This allows an excellent adhesive bond, even when the adhesive is cold. The adhesive joint is made with simple contact pressure, it is important that a sufficiently thick adhesive layer is applied, comparable to a packaging tape. Incidentally, a lot of adhesive tape is also produced with hot melt adhesives. Because tapes only need pressure to bond, the term 'pressure sensitive' is therefore also used.
Pressure-sensitive adhesives also distinguish between permanently tacky and low-adhesion peelable types.
